I Dialis per via della mancanza di esibizioni dal vivo, non sono ancora una band molto conosciuta e l'unico modo per reperire informazioni relative alla loro musica è attraverso le pagine di myspace. Precatio è il primo vero album del gruppo, preceduto dalla pubblicazione dell'omonimo EP rilasciato nell'anno 2006 ed è un disco caratterizzato da uno stile folk con sfumature rock e altri particolari elementi che lo rendono davvero impeccabile. Nel disco si respira un'atmosfera oscura, melanconica, a partire dalla canzone d'introduzione Precatio, dove una lieve melodia struggente suonata al piano viene accompagnata da violenti colpi di basso e da un violoncello. In Labyrinth of Senses possiamo trovare inizialmente un ritmo tribale, contornato da un clarinetto, un violino e sottili arpeggi di chitarra, ma nella seconda parte della canzone le percussioni diverranno molto sottotono e il motivo verrà portato avanti dalla fisarmonica, la chitarra acustica e dal violino; un lavoro davvero molto piacevole per le orecchie. Risulta essere davvero molto bella la traccia Close Ocean, che all'inizio potrebbe ricordare per molti versi una canzone di Nick Cave su No More We Shall Apart per poi concludere con un motivo eseguito al Sax, che sinceramente mi ha fatto pensare molto ad un pezzo Jazz. Altre tracce davvero belle sono la serena A Sweet Eclipse e A Cliff Apart, che conclude il disco con un tono davvero liberatorio. Tutte le canzoni del disco sono interpretate da una voce profonda e se dovessi definirla forzatamente con degli aggettivi, la definirei senz'ombra di dubbio sepolcrale e d'atmosfera. Eviterò di parlare delle altre tracce del disco, perché più o meno seguono gli archetipi di quelle che ho menzionato precedentemente. Ad ogni modo l'album mi è piaciuto davvero molto e invito tutti i gotici e gli appassionati di folk in particolare all'ascolto.

Dialis is het duo Franco bottoni en Giuseppe Giulio Di Lorenzo, die zich door een schare wisselende muzikanten laten bij staan op het podium en in de studio. U hebt onderhand al begrepen dat Dialis z’n thuishaven heeft in (Zuid) Italië, doch wie daarbij aan zon, cocktails en vurig zuiders temperament gaat denken raakt hopeloos de weg kwijt.
Dialis zijn de uitzondering op de regel. Jonge heren die zich overdag veel liever onder de schaduw van een olijfboom ophouden en ’s nachts te voorschijn komen om van de koelte te genieten. En toch heeft de dark wave / post rock van Dialis iets zuiders, een vage broeierige atmosfeer en en kruidige melange van folk en ethereal invloeden zonder daarbij evenwel pittig te zijn.
“Precatio”, het debuutalbum van deze Dialis, is eerder monotoon waardoor de 11 nummers aan het eind van de rit net ietsje te zwaar op de maag blijven liggen, al valt op de juiste momenten wel van deze “Precatio” te genieten. Bij valavond bijvoorbeeld, bij een glaasje wijn of aan het knetterende haardvuur dat mede door de warme klankkleuren in Dialis muziek uw energiefactuur nog meer zal drukken. Ik word er dus ook wel zelf een beetje loom en sloom van, maar daar lijkt Dailis geen probleem mee te hebben. Meer zelfs, dit is voor de introverte persoonlijkheden die liever de drukte en het okselzweet van de dansvloer mijden en de knusse, gezellige woonkamer verkiezen. Geen slecht debuut deze “Precatio”, al moet het met de nodige voorzichtigheid behandeld want ook wel breekbaar, maar u zult vooral een boodschap moeten hebben aan z’n warme Zuiderse en romantische inborst.

DIALIS kommen aus Italien und legen mit "Precatio" ihr erstes Full-Length-Album vor. Dabei geht das Duo mit den wohlklingenden Namen FRANCO BOTTONI, der für Gesang, Bass und Konzertgitarre zuständig ist, und GIUSEPPE DIULIO DI LORENZO, der für die Pianoparts zuständig ist, eher sachte zur Sache. Trotz der im Pressetext proklamierten Rock-Einflüsse verzichtet das Duo nämlich bis auf einige Solo-Passagen auf verzerrte Gitarren. Stattdessen setzen sie auf nachdenkliche Melodien, teilweise bluesige Soli und ruhige Grooves. Über diesem Klangteppich ruht die markante Stimme von FRANCO, die stellenweise ein Wenig an ALEXANDER VELJANOV erinnert. Doch DIALIS kommen damit nur bedingt in die Nähe von DEINE LAKAIEN, viel näher sind sie den ruhigeren Songs der Soloalben von VELJANOV.
Angenehm voll und warm ist der Klang von "Precatio", was besonders positiv auffällt, da das Album komplett in Eigenregie aufgenommen und produziert wurde. Generell ist das, was da ertönt angenehm gefällig und in sich stimmig. Das ist gleichzeitig die große Stärke und die größte Schwäche von DIALIS. Während die Songs nämlich perfekt glatt klingen, fehlt auf der anderen Seite eben doch leider das eine oder andere Highlight auf "Precatio", die elf Songs sind beinahe wieder zu glatt und laufen so Gefahr von der aktiven "Zuhörmusik" zur reinen "Hintergrundbeschallung" abzudriften, was garantiert nicht im Sinne der Macher ist.
Seine stärksten Momente hat das Duo immer dann, wenn die Musik etwas an Spannung zulegt, wie zum Beispiel bei "Labyrinth Of Senses", wo beinahe schon treibende Rhythmen die beinahe schon apathisch wirkende Gesangslinie untermalen oder bei "A Sweet Eclipse", das die rockigen Einflüsse von allen Songs noch am deutlichsten zeigt. Insgesamt ist DIALIS mit "Precatio" ein Debütalbum gelungen, das sich trotz der genannten Schwächen durchaus sehen und hören lassen kann.

Dieser Tage erreichte die BlackLive-Redaktion Post aus dem fernen Avellino: das italienische Duo Dialis hatte seinen ersten Longplayer, “Precatio”, auf große Reise geschickt.
Was Franco Bottoni und Giuseppe Giulio Di Lorenzo da in Eigenregie aufgenommen und produziert haben, ist eine nachdenkliche, melancholische Scheibe Rockmusik. Die durchweg englischsprachigen Lyrics werden von Franco mit seiner tiefen, ruhigen Stimme intoniert und kreisen um Zeit und Vergänglichkeit, um Ewigkeit und Tod.
So verwundert es nicht, dass die Atmosphäre des Albums vorwiegend dunkel und traurig, irgendwie sehnsüchtig klingt… und doch setzt das Klavier immer wieder helle Akzente, webt Hoffnung mit hinein und richtet den Blick nach vorne. Stellenweise fließen, wie etwa bei Close Ocean, zudem Elemente aus dem Blues mit ein, was sich mit der recht großen instrumentalen Bandbreite zu einem harmonischen Ganzen verwebt. Die einzelnen Songs fügen sich sanft aneinander, sodass der Scheibe zwar ein wenig die Abwechslung fehlt, aber eben auch keine krassen Wechsel den Hörer aufschrecken.
Dialis betonen, dass sich ihre Musik trotz des Einflusses der internationel Rockmusik in keine Genreschublade steckenlassen kann und will:
“Our music is, first of all, a personal feeling towards the art of music, and for this reason, our sounds cannot be identified with any particular genre.”
Fazit: ein melancholisch-schöner Klangteppich, den man jedem geneigtem Düster-Hörer ans Herz legen möchte.
Schade, dass Dialis hierzulande kaum bekannt sind und anscheinend auch keine Live-Auftritte geben.

Mit Precatio bringen die Italiener von DIALIS nicht nur ihr erstes, sondern auch ein komplett selbst produziertes Full Length Album auf den Markt. Unabhängig von der Musik muss man an dieser Stelle sagen, dass man nahezu zu keinem Zeitpunkt diese Selbstproduktion in negativer Weise bemerkt. Respekt und Anerkennung schon einmal dafür. Eine zweite Besonderheit, die bereits nach dem ersten Durchlauf mehr als deutlich wird ist, dass DIALIS durch eine recht sparsame Instrumentierung dem Gesang einen hohen Stellenwert einräumen und dieser so nicht nur Song begleitend, sondern vielmehr wie ein richtiges Instrument Song bildend fungiert. Und das tut dieser auch wirklich sehr gut. Die Stimme Franco Bottonis hat einen angenehm tiefen und warmen Klang und schafft es zusammen mit den sehr Piano und nur dezent Gitarren betonten Songs, den Hörer richtig gehend einzulullen. Setzt wie bspw. in A Fragile Rebirth eine zweite Stimme mit ein, wird dem Ganzen auch etwas mehr Dynamik verliehen und kann sogar eine Art düsterer Lagerfeuerstimmung vermitteln, die sich irgendwo zwischen Veljanov, Nick Cave und Neo-Folk einpendelt. Melancholische Akkordeonklänge wie in Sworn Compassion, sowie oftmals erklingende sphärische Glöckchen (Neo-Folker wissen, was ich meine) rücken DIALIS dann auch noch ein Stück weit näher ins Feld von Of The Wand And The Moon und Co. Auch vor eher Genrefremden Instrumenten scheuen DIALIS nicht zurück und lassen z. Bsp. sanfte Saxophonklänge und auch das ein oder andere mal dezent verzerrte Gitarrenklänge die dunkle Wärme des Gesangs unterstützen.
Fluch und Segen von Precatio zugleich ist, dass es wie aus einem Guss klingt. Leider halt zum Großteil manchmal zu sehr. DIALIS setzen bis auf wenige Ausnahmen kaum wirkliche Akzente und bauen hauptsächlich auf die erwähnte einlullende Wirkung der Songs. Prinzipiell gefällt mir das auch sehr gut, doch schleicht sich so eventuell für manchen Hörer nach einigen Durchläufen schon so etwas wie eine Sättigung ein und lässt Precatio so manches Mal gefährlich nahe am Etikett Hintergrundmusik vorbeischrammen. Dennoch überwiegt letztendlich ein doch positiver Gesamteindruck und an grauen Herbsttagen wird man sich mit Precatio schon angenehme warme Finsternis ins Haus holen könne, so dass ich - auch in Anerkennung der Eigenproduktion – Freunden der erwähnten Klänge DIALIS durchaus ans Herz legen und ein Probe hören empfehlen kann.

When gothic began colliding with electronics, a lot of nice surprises came into light, but there's also another side of gothic bands and musicians which seems to prefer interweaves with ethnic and folk (sometimes forgotten) influences. It depends mostly from the setting even a goth musicians has (not only from the artistic viewpoint) grown... that's just one of the reason we think the contamination of naturally gothic musical bent (sometimes very close to Deine Lakaien's sound)with sonorities reminding some musical roots as well as some abandoned poetry of inner mountain regions of Irpinia (a rural area, tragically become famous for a devastating earthquake in the 80s that could be considered naturally gothic as well... ) proposed by the Italian band Dialis is not intended for gammers, standing as interesting musical stuff to be welcomed in the international Neo-Folk scene (even if it's indirectly suffering from the violent struggle between music labels, trying to tempt the listeners throughout over advertised deep-frozen records that you could overheat in a microwave oven in order to ear ... it's just the same stuff coming over and over again, folks!).
By walking on a wire between folklore and darkness, Dialis are able to lift those traditions in a sort of mystical dimension, tinged by a gloomy decadent roller coating: the euphonic voice of Franco Bottoni '“ which sometimes reminds some glorious crooners such as Nick Cave in tracks like Precatio and the lovely Close Ocean, with a guessed presence of a soprano saxophonist in the line up - and the melancholic piano of Giuseppe Di Lorenzo sounds like an uddered and dignified discharge for listeners' mind, the bluesy guitar grooves lying on pensive lyrics mirror some husky reflections on art (even if sometimes they seems to strand and hesitate on the same old matters... ) , but even if the richness in musical tones created by the contrast between the guitar and other instruments (in particular the piano... ) seems to give a certain tepidness to cold stones (someone could imagine them singing... ) I don't agree with Dialis when they refers to rock while introducing to the album (except of A Sweet Eclipse), whose features clearly emerges in the final act of this record, the de-fibred A Cliff Apart, a lovely track you'll easily put in your "Favorites" folder together with tracks such as the poetic glimpse of A Fragile Rebirth, the dialogue between violin and Franco's evocative voice in Abeyance or the frayed Labyrinth Of Senses, a track in which the tension inspiring the whole album looks definitively "unfastened". By the way, this record is really mature and full of ... maybe too mature for being a debut album... the main risk of such maturity is that listeners are going to expect more from their next stage... and we're still in suspense as well!

Dialis es el nombre de un grupo musical de rock internacional en donde las guitarras (clásicas y eléctricas) se combinan magistralmente con un piano, un violín, una flauta,... dando un cuerpo musical impresionante a estas composiciones. En su álbum “Precatio”, nos encontramos con una colección de canciones a cual más excelente y admirable. Desde luego, “Precatio” es indiscutiblemente un disco para degustar en solitario y con un buen espirituoso en la mano, porque estas maravillas musicales sólo pueden ser apreciadas por los paladares más exigentes y sibaritas. Delicadas melodías, tempos perfectos y la voz de Franco Bottoni dejando su huella sentimental en unas canciones tocadas por la magia de un piano acariciado por Giuseppe Giulio di Lorenzo. Además, me ha encantado el diseño del libreto realizado para este disco, ofreciendo una pincelada de estilo digna de admiración. Es asombroso comprobar cómo Italia sigue estando a la vanguardia musical en cuanto a buen gusto y a buen arte.
Con notas de piano como olas, la canción “Precatio” solamente necesita unos segundos para atrapar nuestra atención y adentrarnos en la sensación musical. “As Judas curses”, con su guitarra clásica dando entrada a la voz bohemia de Franco Bottoni, nos invita a relajarnos en aires del pasado hasta que la melancólica “Labyrinth of sense”, y su cómplice violín, hagan de esta canción, una de mis favoritas en este disco. Si con “Labyrith of sense” parecía que habíamos alcanzado el cielo, con “Close ocean” y su influjo del rock sinfónico años setenta, mezclado con jazz y aires del siglo XXI, se ha ganado con absoluta rotundidad un puesto muy especial dentro de las canciones más queridas de mi colección discográfica. “Close ocean” es una canción impresionante.
El vigor musical sigue vivo en “A fragile rebirth” hasta que “Sworn compassion” nivele esa euforia hacia sensaciones más pausadas e introvertidas. “Feeding of tears for E. Dickinson” es la elegante forma con la que el grupo Dialis ha rendido homenaje a la poetisa norteamericana Emily Dickinson. Con la canción “Presentation to the heaven”, retornamos a la decadencia bebida a sorbos hasta que “A sweet eclipse” nos lleve de la mano a atmósferas más alegres y placenteras. “Abeyance” es mucho más íntima, más luciferina, más nocturna, dando paso a “A cliff apart”, canción que da cierre a este disco con un final de trasfondo mucho más ancestral.
Apúntense este grupo, Dialis, y su álbum “Precatio”. Esto es saber componer música y saber crear un buen disco. Y que luego tenga uno que escuchar que la música lleva años estancada. No es que esté estancada la música, es que las compañías discográficas no saben apoyar y producir a grupos musicales de esta calidad. Apuesten fuerte por grupos como Dialis y verán como el mundo de la música vuelve a tener color y a provocar sensaciones. "Precatio" is another record that has been on my list for ages for a reason that will make southern Italy based Dialis happy: I could've listened to the record three times and bashed it based on my first impression: horribly amateurish with songs just floating around pointlessly without going anywhere in particular. But something kept me from doing so, a constant thought of an unusually deep emotion lingering somewhere beneath the surface that I just hadn't uncovered yet. And then I finally realized what it was: every sound found on "Precatio" isn't just a sound. It's a small part of a beautiful composition - not necessarily a 'song' in the traditional sense - originating directly from the feeling of band's two masterminds Bottoni / Di Lorenzo. Every man on earth knows communicating feelings is the most difficult issue of all, so bear with me while I attempt to make you understand what "Precatio" actually is.
The task isn't made any easier by the band's own promo sheet, which states "Even though the band has been influenced by international rock music, Dialis are a project which cannot be included in any stylistic category" - a statement which I wholeheartedly agree with. Dialis namely play dark, brooding, atmospheric folk music assisted by a plethora of instruments: classical piano, cello, clarinet, flute, transverse flute, tenor & soprano saxophone, accordion, violin. But before that makes you think of other folk bands, either in rock or metal, it's important to mention that Dialis aren't really folk in the traditional music scene sense. Their expression is much more minimalistic and thoughtful in nature. Every violin passage contrasted by classical piano, every distorted riff, every flute entrance is sparingly used to reflect a feeling, creating an ever-changing mood that's consistently dark, but not in the evil or pitch black sense... rather a different shade of gray. This picture, featured in the album's booklet, describes precisely the setting and the atmosphere that Dialis so successfully craft on the record. It's dusk, maybe with light rain, but yet oddly peaceful, perhaps because the busy life of big towns and cities is so distant in the horizon that it doesn't affect you at all. The occasional jazzy guitar solos sound like they could be from almost any legendary guitarist's solo album, but the calmness of how they are executed only fortifies the imagery I've been trying to explain for the better part of this paragraph.
Some people may be put off by Bottoni's constant tendency to use mini-vibrato when singing, but once you get used to it, you'll notice that his gothic styled vocal plays a large role in creating the brooding mood of the entire record. Like so many other things on "Precatio", the vocals aren't just vocals, they're actually an instrument used carefully to manipulate the atmosphere. That's also why I think Dialis have done a great job behind the production desk, because the lo-fi, bass-heavy soundscape helps many different aspects of the atmosphere.
But even though I've slowly learned to appreciate what it is that Dialis are trying to, or should I say succeed in creating, I'm still finding it difficult to give "Precatio" a higher rating than the one I'm about to give, and that's because Dialis are so different, so original in their expression that I'm struggling to think of anyone who would find enough time or curiosity within themselves to understand the stuff behind the album - the feeling - rather than focus just on the music itself. It's like a manually constructed pocket watch from Switzerland, the inner workings of which is astoundingly intricate, but the majority of people only use one for two reasons - bragging and checking the time - without really understanding or caring how it works.

DIALIS aus Italien veröffentlichen ihren ersten Longplayer in Eigenregie, ohne Plattenvertrag und Label. Nach einer EP vor 3 Jahren nun also „Precatio“. Das Duo aus Kampanien - Giuseppe Di Lorenzo und Franco Bottoni – setzt auf gotische, folkige Klänge, in denen Piano und Streicher auf dem ganzen Album eine prominente Rolle einnehmen. Der Titeltrack und Opener sowie der eine oder andere Song scheinen direkt aus einer Songsammlung von Nick Cave zu Zeiten von „No More Shall We Part“ zu stammen – vor allem die sakrale Stimmlage und das Pianospiel erinnern an den Dunkelmann Nr. 1. Allerdings muss man sich erst einmal an das seltsame, dauernde Vibrato in Bottonis Stimme gewöhnen – dies mag den einen oder anderen abschrecken; Nick Cave wäre mit dieser Angewohnheit sicherlich nur halb so erfolgreich. „As Judas Curses“ überzeugt mit einer starken Melodie im Refrain und eine an Carlos Santana erinnernde E-Gitarre – ungewöhnlich rockig für diese ansonsten ruhige, melancholische Platte. Tribal Drums forcieren auch noch einmal in "Labyrinth Of Senses", welches elegisch ausklingt. Auch ein „uncooles“ Instrument wie ein Sopransaxofon kommt zum Einsatz („Close Ocean“) und verleiht eine jazzige Note – überhaupt ist die Instrumentierung sehr anspruchsvoll für eine unabhängige Produktion (u.a. Flöten, Akkordion, diverse Streicher) und verleiht den Songs tolle Farben. Aber die Grundstimmung bleibt auf dem gesamten Album eher gothic – womit die Zielgruppe dieses Albums auch definiert wäre. Als besonderer Pluspunkt sei das wunderbare Artwork genannt. Das Cover ziert eine Darstellung aus seiner alten Kapelle und vor allem das Booklet ist ein kleines Kunstwerk, mit vielen stimmungsvollen S/W-Fotos. „It was a very risky step to make ’Precatio’ and we had to face up to a lot of sacrifices”, verrät Bottoni in einem Interview. Es sei ihm gegönnt, dass der eine oder andere Freund dunkler Klänge hier einmal reinhört und sich zum Kauf entschließt – passend zu den länger werdenden Abenden im Herbst… Anspieltipps: As Judas Curses, Close Ocean

L'esordio nel mondo discografico dei Dialis risale a due anni fa con la pubblicazione del primo EP, frutto di un percorso esplorativo e di ricerca all'interno del panorama musicale di un certo livello, forte di una profonda personalità compositiva libera dalle costrizioni di una autocatalogazione stilistica.
Senza perdere tempo, i due componenti [Franco Bottoni e Giuseppe Giulio Di Lorenzo] tornano di nuovo al lavoro, continuando sulla falsariga della prima pubblicazione che nel frattempo ha ricevuto buoni consensi. Il primo album dei Dialis vuole essere un disco ancora più contaminato della precedente uscita, con una maggiore cura dei dettagli e la ancor più marcata volontà di evolvere il proprio suono.
L'intento di questo duo campano viene raggiunto con la loro ultima creazione, ovvero Precatio; è un disco caldo, caratterizzato da una melodia a metà tra il drammatico ed il soave, che lascia spazio per divagazioni sonore con un denominatore comune che è possibile identificare in una "ispirazione" di tipo New/Dark Wave.
Il timbro vocale è spesso e volentieri greve, profondo, scandito in modo da rimanere in primo piano, accompagnato dal suono onnipresente di un pianoforte che ricalca i passaggi della voce; il comparto strumentale tuttavia non ricopre il semplice ruolo di riempimento, ma è co-protagonista indiscusso dell'intero lavoro, delineando ogni traccia con ritmi e strumenti differenti tra loro [violini, flauti, tamburi, sax, tastiere, che miscelati tra loro vanno a caratterizzare brani che spaziano da sonorità di derivazione R'n'R fino a traccie atmosferiche e riflessive].
Per tutto lo scorrere del disco l'ascoltatore viene cullato dalle affascinanti melodie che i Dialis sono riusciti a comporre, anche grazie alle numerose collaborazioni nella registrazione degli strumenti; il risultato rende Precatio un disco piuttosto ben riuscito, forte di un lato emotivo dalla presenza marcata che, unito alla controparte musicale, riesce a catturare l'attenzione fin dai primi brani, avvolgendo gli ascoltatori in un velo di atmosfere eteree e surreali.

I Dialis sono un duo proveniente dalla Campania giunto, anche grazie alla collaborazione di diversi musicisti, all'esordio autoprodotto in questo 2009. "Precatio" è un disco sostanzialmente riuscito, che si propone come interessante realtà nel difficile panorama musicale italiano.
Il genere proposto è un bel miscuglio tra rock sofisticato, inflessioni dark e una impostazione che riflette una certa vena cantautoriale. Il tutto attraverso undici pezzi delicati, molto compatti e ben studiati. Fondamentale per la riuscita dell'album l'apporto, come accennato, dei numerosi ospiti che si alternano tra una brano e l'altro. Si ha così la possibilità di arricchire il sound del gruppo con interventi di sax decisamente riusciti, accompagnamenti di fisarmonica mai invadenti, senza contare i numerosi arrangiamenti di archi e flauti.
L'atmosfera è piuttosto dimessa e le pulsanti linee di basso utilizzate, richiamano alla mente i principali attori della scena dark, primi tra tutti i Cure (si veda l'iniziale "Precatio" ma soprattutto la terza "Labyrinth Of Senses"). Ma è tutta la parte strumentale a sorprendere, grazie a una cura degli arrangiamenti assolutamente non banale: si veda l'ottima parte finale di "Sworn Compassion" o i delicati passaggi di "Presentation To The Heaven". Anche il songwriting si presenta piuttosto solido, grazie a una buona caratterizzazione di brani, spesso sapientemente costruite su immediate linee di piano e che raramente si adagiano sulla classica forma canzone ma che preferiscono districarsi in soluzioni più varie e articolate. La voce di Franco Bottoni è ben impostata e da una direzione precisa al sound del gruppo anche se risulta a tratti un pò monocorde e un pò slegata dal resto dal flusso sonoro. Questo a causa di un mixing non impeccabile a cui si unisce una qualità sonora non eccelsa. Problemi tipici quando si parla di autoproduzioni, ma in un contesto come quello dei Dialis risultano ancora più evidenti in quanto il gruppo stesso, per le qualità di cui dispone, meriterebbe ben altro trattamento sonoro.
Suoni non eccelsi non permettono però di rovinare ottime tracce come la folkeggiante "A Cliff Apart", la melodica "As Judas Curses" o la bellissima (miglior brano del lotto) "Close Ocean". Insomma, la questione suoni è facilmente risolvibile perchè il gruppo ha dalla sua le qualità più grandi: ossia idee e passione. La qualità sonora farà in tempo ad arrivare. "Precatio" è un prodotto che consiglio caldamente a ogni amante della musica crepuscolare, raffinata e mai invadente; o quantomeno un nome da segnarsi perchè il futuro è dalla loro parte.

Franco Bottoni and Giuseppe Giulio Di Lorenzo are the duo behind the Italian band Dialis, with "Precatio" being their debut album Taking the hints from the heavily dramatic artwork of nostalgic black and white pictures you can predict what is going to happen as soon as you press play. Precatio is a romantic, dark album, sporting deep vocals that were taken straight from the dark eighties and orchestrating an equally dramatic music around this 11 part dirge like album.
Dialis do not take themselves lightly, in every aspect, and set high standards for a debut album, especially a self released one, with both art, packaging and the quality of the recordings. It might have been recorded at home, I don't know, but it doesn't sound likely from what I am listening to. The eleven songs vary from soft ballads to bombastic melodramas and noted everywhere is their emphasis on the lyrics and music playing. Apart from the two main characters behind this band are other players, with a pretty impressive arsenal of instruments varying from guitars, bass, violins, clarinets. Accordion, cello, piano and more. Since this is not a neo classical music per se, you should get the idea of the kind of music we are talking about. A mash of your favourite (and not-so-favourite) dark eighties band along with recent times acoustic goth music and there you have it. At certain points of the album Dialis even reminds me of several goth/doom metal bands, but they are doing this without actually being Metal. To me, tired and weary from most goth metal acts, this is indeed a blessing. Another great thing about Precatio is that even though it is very heavy with emotions, it flows pretty smoothly on the ear, meaning you can listen to it from start to end, and over again, without growing tired of it.
This is accomplished mostly due to the fact that Dialis are using many layers of music one on top of the other, with songs being dynamic rather than static. At some points it even gets (A little!) Jazzy and I am being confused whether I am listening to some sort of twisted, morbid elevator music – which is very creepy thing to hear. What sounds to me like a Saxophone, which is an unfamiliar addition to any dark music whatsoever, on track number eight, is adding a film-noir aura to the music, giving it some hint of an obscure storyline through this, taking the album to a higher level when it comes to musical development. Further into the album there are going to be hints of Death in June as well, while overall Precatio being made of catchy and memorable songs one after the other.
The age of skinny people in dark suits, standing with their sunglasses at the corners of the nightclub is over for some time, but nostalgia is ageless and Many of the musical acts on this genre and its area are basing their stands on this fact. For fans of the music, Dialis are impressive newcomers that should be given a listen. They have made everything on the most professional side and they mean business. A great album to listen to in the rainy (and for the lucky ones – in the snowy) winter

Dialis, als 'flamen dialis' ein Priester des Jupiter, brachte in alten Zeiten des römischen Reiches so manches Gebet (precatio) vor.
Aus Italien erreicht uns ein 'paar' Jahre später ein Silberling mit Gebeten ganz eigener Art. Waren die alten Römer bekannt für ausschweifende Feste, so zeigen sich hier die Nachfahren von ganz anderer Seite.
Franco Bottoni und Giuseppe Giulio Di Lorenzo bieten Musik dar, die wirklich vergleichlos ist. Sie sind zwar international beeinflusst und diese Einflüsse sind auch hörbar, doch zu einem solchen Gesamtbild zusammengesetzt, wie ich es noch nie auch nur annähernd ähnlich vernommen habe.
Doch wie beschreibe ich das nun so, dass sich ein Leser auch noch irgendwie ein Bild dessen machen kann, was das Duo aus der Campania hier vorträgt?
Ganz extrem düster und depressiv wirkt die Musik auf mich, so sehr, dass ich nicht in der Lage bin, das ganze Album am Stück zu hören. Düster und depressiv, das sind Begriffe, die eine große Bandbreite umfassen und diesem Album somit gar nicht ganz gerecht werden.
Nehmen wir den Altmeister des depressiven Songs, Leonard Cohen, dann klingt der gegen die Italiener auch bei seinen düstersten Nummern so frisch und fröhlich wie ein Frühlingsmorgen.
Und auch Eden weint im Grab, ein Projekt von Sascha Blach, das ich bisher für unübertrefflich in Puncto trauriger Stimmung gehalten habe, quillt dagegen über vor Lebenslust.
Ich muss gestehen, ich habe ziemliche Schwierigkeiten mit dem Album, oder genauer mit der Stimmung, die es bei mir erzeugt, denn musikalisch gibt es eigentlich nichts zu meckern. Die Italiener setzen auf sparsame Instrumentierung. Die Gesangsstimme hat was, insgesamt ist die Scheibe solide und fundiert aufgesetzt und hinterlässt einen runden und gekonnten Eindruck.
Nun findet ja bekanntlich jedes Töpfchen sein Deckelchen und ganz sicher auch jede CD ihre Hörer - wer auf der Suche nach extremster Melancholie und Depression ist, sollte hier ruhig ein Ohr riskieren.

Primer larga duración de este proyecto compuesto por dos músicos italianos: Franco Bottoni y Giuseppe Giulio Di Lorenzo, quienes durante cerca de una hora nos adentran en un universo lleno de melancolía, sentimentalismo, intimismo, tranquilidad, el arte del claroscuro, tonos grisáceos… y Rock Gótico, Sinfónico, Folk, Jazz, etc., pudiendo en ocasiones recordar a Pink Floyd, King Crimson, a los más tranquilos Anathema… incluso a R.E.M.
Su primera grabación date del 2006, un E.P. compuesto por cinco temas. Al igual que el Extended Play, “Precatio” fue autoeditado, grabando las once canciones entre el otoño de 2008 y la primavera de 2009. Corriendo con la grabación, la mezcla y producción Armando Marano y la banda en PratolaFolk Studio.
Antes de escribir sobre lo que se puede escuchar en el CD, hay que dar una grandísima enhorabuena por el diseño gráfico del digipack y del libreto, los cuales casan perfectamente con la música de Dialis. Siendo la portada sacada de una pintura de autor desconocido hallada en una antigua capilla del cementerio de Lapio (Irpinia, Italia). El libreto está genial, acompañando al texto de cada canción excelentes fotos en blanco negro, la mayoría realizadas por Franco Bottoni, excepto dos que son de Lino Trodella.
Franco Bottoni se encarga de poner la voz principal a los temas (todos compuestos y escritos por él), además de ser bajista y guitarra acústica. Su compañero Giuseppe Giulio Di Lorenzo posa y presiona sus dedos sobre las teclas del piano.
Las once canciones son bastante tranquilas y relajantes, comandadas por la voz personal, profunda y grave de Bottoni. Acompañándolo en ocho temas una segunda voz por obra del que junto con el dúo se encargó de estar tras los controles del álbum, Armando Marano. Pero Armando (quien también toca el acordeón en el disco) no es el único participante extra. Según la composición hay diversos invitados que hacen ganar a las canciones en tesituras y musicalidad: Antonio Iandolo (guitarra eléctrica), Enzo Di Somma (chelo y bajo), Antonio Melillo (flauta travesera), Walter Vivarelli (batería e instrumentos de percusión), Giuseppe Melillo (violín), Achille Marano (guitarra acústica), Michele Brogna (clarinete) y Orlando Marano (saxo soprano). El violonchelo, el piano, el bajo… junto al personalísimo tono vocal, envuelven de una magna melancolía a composiciones como “Precatio”, “A Fragile Rebirth”, “Sworn compassion”, “Presentation To The Heaven”, “A Sweet Eclipse” (aunque en ésta hay una mezcla de melancolía y más viveza) y “Abeyance”. Sin embargo cuando otras veces suena la guitarra acústica, el violín, la flauta travesera, etc., añaden a la melancolía calmados aires folkies y bucólicos en piezas como “As Judas Curses”, “Labyrinth Of Senses”, “Feeding Of Tears For E. Dickinson” (refiriéndose a la poetisa norteamericana del siglo XIX Emily Dickinson) y “A Cliff Apart”. Habiendo incluso reminiscencias al Jazz en algunas canciones, como el caso de “Close Ocean”.
Un disco que para algunos puede suponer un soberano latazo y para otros, como servidor, un gusto auditivo e imaginativo. Escuchándolo detenidamente y deleitándose contemplando la inmensidad del Cielo, o tranquilo en la penumbra tomando una copa de buen vino, o acostado a oscuras con los ojos cerrados… y adentrándose en el arte del dúo (y colaboradores) italiano.
